Budgie Lovebird
what is better as a pet a budgie or a lovebird?
i want to get a bird that will be very
affectionate,
will cuddle,
easy to train{if i get any of the two birds both will be young so age is not a factor.},
will love to be with me,
will not cause damage if i get bitten,
is smarter.
does not screech or scream or make very loud disruptive noises.{also i do understand that both birds can be loud but i do not want a bird that will constantly be loud and annoying.
i am sorry for so much questions but please answer all my questions when you answer and please do not give me a one word answer like budgie. or lovebird.

Sweetie, I’m really sorry to have to tell you this, but a lot of your wishes for this bird are not realistic. Yes, birds can cuddle (my lovebird was very affectionate), yes they can be trainable and relatively intelligent(especially, in my opinion, the lovebird), but they DO bite…not all budgies and lovebirds, but it does happen, and nothing on earth can predict whether you buy a biting bird or not. You have to ‘woo’ birds. You have to take your time to get them to love and trust you. Biting can and does happen. You have to forgive them for it. You are very large, after all, and they are tiny. Birds are loud. My lovebird ‘chirruped’ when he was feeling particularly proud of himself or when he was wanting attention and I was busy. It happens. Again, it just comes with sharing life with a bird. I will tell you that if you cover the bird cage they usually quiet down…but I only did that at night. I really think you might consider a different animal altogether. If not, my vote is for the lovebird, because they are so interactive, trainable, funny, and companionable. They are wonderful…but you have to be willing to deal with them being birds to have them. I do hope you don’t think I’m being mean, I’m really just trying to help you.
If you do get a bird…remember not to say ‘shhhh’ when you are first getting to know them or when you are calming them if they get frightened. Shhh sounds like a snake hiss, and it is hardwired into them to panic when they hear the noise. Use a neutral sound like Ooohhh instead. Also, both birds love baths and will love you too if you give them a chance to have them on a regular basis. You can form really strong bonds with them, but be careful that you aren’t expecting too much and be ready to be patient and loving. They will reward you with wonderful friendship if you do!
Er. One of the answerers said that love birds can’t be kept on their own. I’m sure they meant well, but they are wrong. In fact, if you want an affectionate lovebird, you have to have only one. They bond with a human much better if you don’t have birdy competition. However. If you aren’t going to give this bird A LOT of time with you out of the cage, playing and cuddling, you will need to get a companion for it. Just remember that it won’t be as affectionate as it would have been.
