What is the little strip of wood seperating colors about halfway down a wall called?
We just painted our living room wall and my husband wanted to paint it to where about the bottom third was one color and the top two-thirds was another. Then in the middle will be… a seperator? I don’t know what it’s called. My husband said it will be about a 3 1/2″ long piece of a wooden or solid surface material right where the colors meet. Does anyone know what the correct terminology is for this strip of material that seperates the paint colors? Someone suggested “wainescoting” but that doesn’t seem to be it either as wainscoting appears to be paneling for the whole bottom portion not just a thin 3 1/2″ strip across the middle….
It is called a chair railing. If you go to a hardware store and tell them you are looking for somthing to use for a chair railing on your wall they will know exactly what you need. It iwll most likely be a piece of molding or somthing similar to a baseboard but with different angles.
But yes it is called a chair railing. The purpose is so that if you have a dinining table near a room, you push the chair back against the wall it hits the railing instead of putting a dent in your wall. Good luck!

Walnut is a beautiful darker wood that looks good with or without stain. It can come in the natural wood in both a darker or light versions.
Except in the way just stated the color of wood is no indication of strength. Technical requirements for wood furniture: medium weight, dimensional stable, decorative, facile, easy nailed, easy levigated, easy to screwed-down, and easy to paste. Type of wood in furniture: teak, ebony, nails, mahogany, meranti and others. Copse dye is the warranty of quality but not for strength.
The wood basic color is indicated quality of wood and giving the right direction for coloring or finishing wood furniture. More to the point, how strong it’s wood if get a wrong finishing it will reduce the value. Amalgamation of wood basic color and furnishing which is useful to protect the wood from termite as well as add the beauty of its furniture is essential part of wooden furniture manufacturer process.

will it look ok to have diff wood colors in living room?
im decorating a new living room,is it ok to mix up diff wood tones such as a oak table with a mahagony accent table?
If you were to have asked this same question 5 years ago, the answer would have been different.
Years ago, wood needed to match and if it didn’t, it was deemed a decorating DON’T. Today, mismatched woods have really come into fashion. It’s in all the designer magazines and designers don’t have a problem with doing it.
It’s my opinion that mis-matched woods are fine and even add interest to a room that would otherwise be pretty dull.
My only caution would be not to put two VERY contrasting woods too close together (right next to each other). If not done correctly, it could make a nice idea look confusing and kind of ‘dorm roomish’.
