Cup Parakeet
My parakeets are afraid to eat fruits and veggies.?
I have two parakeets (a male and a female). Sky(female) won’t go near or touch them when i put them in a cup in the cage. Lou(male) won’t either. They need a better diet besides there seed, millet spray, and a bird treat. Is there anyway they will eat them? thanks.
P.S I try to give them strawberries and banners.

Keep introducing them to fruits and veggies, also try giving them 30 minutes before dinner time. It may help if they see you eating them.
Before you feed them breakfast or dinner-offer them fruits and veggies, take them out after 1/2 hour and offer their regular food-take their regular food out after an hour or so. Hopefully they’ll get hungry at dinnertime and take the fruits and veggies that you offer before dinner.
You might also want to try spinach or romaine lettuce first-it looks somewhat like grass, and they may try it.

I have three parakeets and they barely eat their food in their food cup.But when I give them the millet spray treat,they all come and eat it.Now thats mostly I give them and I’m afraid that they’re going to get fat.What should I do?
Well, are you feeding them what they ate at the pet store? They may be refusing the food because they don’t recognize it and they recognize the millet, so they eat it. Get some seeds for them (bad, I know, just wait) and let them eat that for a few days. Then mix in 1/4 of the new food to 3/4 seeds for a few days, then half and half for a few, etc until they are eating their food. No, parakeets usually don’t get fat, but on a seed diet, they get fatty liver disease, so don’t let them eat seed foods very often or for long periods of time.
