Any advice on getting started as a mobile notary/signing agent?
I’m kinda interested in getting into this as a side gig. Anyone know how to get started (training programs?) or good companies to work for (from home of course)? Particulary any companies willing to work with newbies? From what little I do know, this is the type of job you could do as an independent contractor and accept as many or as few assignments as you want and based on your schedule. Any further insight would be great. Thanks. BTW, I’m in Florida.
Check with the Secretary of the State’s office for details on legal requirements to become a notary public in your state. You will have to take the prescribed course(s), take an exam, pay exam fees and registration/licensing fees. After you become a notary in your state and county, you will need experience as a notary before you can really start working as a mobile notary. You need references and connections before law firms, etc, will send you out.
Are you working for a bank? Law firm? Real estate broker? Most notaries do, and this is where they get experience, references & connections to do mobile notary work.
Note most states have restrictions on what notaries can charge (e.g. in Connecticut, the maximum charge is $5), whether a mobile notary is limited to their county or valid throughout the state, etc. google “notary + State of Florida” for info, and be sure you check your state’s official website for the legal info on becoming a notary! Also note that mobile notaries are almost exclusively used during standard office hours, so if you have a day job, forget it.
