Pvc play gym for my bird?

Hi, i want to know some stuff about building a pvc play gym. It will have NO glue on it becuase i am afraid of the bird getting poisoned. Can You show me some pictures, or help me with ideas on how to build the pvc play gym? I want it to look awesome. My dad has pvc pipe and i will be helping him build it. Can you tell me how long, and wide the pvc pipe should be? It will be for a female Mexican Red Headed Amazon. I want to know how thick/big the pvc pipe should be so it will feel comfortable gripping the pipe. Also, i have heard of using like cohesive bandage to put over the pvc pipe as a grip, but what alternatives can i use for this?

You can just connect them all and make it into like a maze at the bottom, and then make it go up and form it into a tree. That is what I did, and my birds loved it! Like at the bottom put a series of pipes together and twist and turn them so she can scooch around and stuff. The pout a center on it. And you can put a long pip up in the middle, so it goes up high. Then add attachments to the side that center piece so she can climb up to the top. And then at the top of the center piece, make it like a tree. Make all these limbs come off of it, and add fake plants or toys!

The pipe should be at least one or two feet long, And it should be four or five inches wide. The bird’s feet shouldn’t be able to go completely around the pipe because it can cause deformities that way. It should also be very long because they love to play, and they will need a lot of room for that! Also, everything shouldn’t be scrunched up together and that’s why it should be long. It would make it a lot harder to play!

Use both or your hands to make a circle. That is how round and thick the PVC pipe should be! That will be good enough so your bird doesn’t get foot problems, And it is a good grip size! But make sure that it isn’t too big, or your bird will have flat feet.

Cohesive bandage is really good! You can also try wound wraps, that is really good, too. Try using a cloth, or material, that won’t slip on the pipe. This will help keep your bird’s feet warm, and it isn’t rough on the feet! Bandages can be really rough for their feet, and can rub it raw. Maybe try using a thick cloth.

That’s a good question. This particular play gym looks like it is dyed with food coloring . I myself prefer the plain ones. If the plain ones get dirty they can be wiped off and sanded. The food color dyed ones are safe but with many of them if they get wet the dye will come off on the bird. To repaint anything for a bird like a cage go to a good paint store and get child safe paint. It will have a pic of a mother holding the hand of a child walking with her.
