Perch Toy
Can someone give me a break down of cost for a Sun Conure?
I would like it to include the bird and the cage. And then the food, medical, perches, toys, and any misc things for a year.
Also what size cage do I need for a Sun Conure. Is a 28 x 22 x 29 with a playtop ok?
Any other information would be helpful!
A sun conure is about $650-$700 or so. The cage that I have for my pineapple conure is about 5′ x3′ x3′. That is a little big, but it give her a good amount of room for toys and room for flying. A good cage will cost you around $300-$600. A bag of pellets are about $15 and conure seed is about another $25, that should last you about 4-5 months. You will also want to include fresh fruits and veggies, my pineapple conure likes broccoli, cooked carrots and mango. The vet visits are really not that much money, it will probably be under $100, call first so you know. Perches are usually not that expensive and they usually have a couple that come with the cage. You would also want to get other perches of different texture. So perches would probably cost you only about $20. Toys are about another $50, but some are very expensive so that could go much higher. You might also want to get a table top play area which would cost about $30-$40.
Birds are very costly at the beginning because you are starting out with nothing. Birds are relatively inexpensive once you have a nice cage and some toys. Toys should be changed out once they are showing wear, most toys last over a year. Same with perches.

What are somethings that are a MUST is parakeet cages?
I have two parakeets i was wondering what are something that have to be in there cage. I have toys,perches,food and water bowls,treats, and a cuttlebone. Is there anything else i need for them?
Make sure they get some grit, they cannot digest food without it. I got gritty paper for the floor of my parakeet’s cage (a dream to change!), and for good measure, after I changed it, I would add a pinch of loose Gravel and Grit (that’s the name of it, available at the pet store), just to make sure he could get plenty. I also got vitamin drops to add to his water (and I always used bottled water, not tap). I can’t say if it’s essential, but I figured it couldn’t hurt anything. Skye was always the picture of health!
Most birds, including parakeets, love to look at themselves in (unbreakable) mirrors. They can entertain themselves for hours with one. A good tip I learned is to rotate their toys periodically, so they don’t get bored always having the same old things to play with. They will love it if you provide a shallow bowl of water for them to bathe in regularly. Yeah, they can make a mess with it, but it’s good for them. Another thing that is a good idea is to cover their cage at night. This protects them from drafts, lights, and makes them feel safe.
About the only other thing I might recommend is a seed-catcher. Parakeets are messy eaters, and will scatter their food. A lot of it will end up on your floor. You can buy one that fits around the bottom of your bird’s cage, or just spread out an old sheet or tablecloth under the cage. Then you can just gather it up and shake it outside. If appearances are an issue, just make to keep your Dust Buster charged!
That’s about all I can think of. I hope you got a cage large enough for two birds. One designed for one parakeet isn’t going to be comfortable for two. A good rule of thumb is to buy the largest cage you can afford and have space for. Birds are birds, and all like to have some space to move around in.
