why was the electronic drum set invented?
i was just wondering why the electronic drum set was invented. Why couldnt we just continue to use the regular drum kit?
It provides the ability to practice/play without disturbing your neighbors, without the need for a special sound-proof room.
In the same way that an electronic keyboard provides privacy via playback through headphones, so can the electronic drumset.
This provides a level of accessibility to practice times that a conventional drumset/piano/guitar couldn’t provide without the benefit of an expensive home/room upgrade.

Make the decision to quit very clear to yourself. Sell yourself on the idea. Convince yourself with a great argument about the benefits of quitting. Think of the money you’ll save if you quit! That can be a powerful motivator. Think of what you can do with the money you’ll save. The power of setting goals (like a lovely holiday) is a very strong power. If you are certain you can quit, chances are you will. Humans receive subliminal messages through advertising and verbal input. Since they are subliminal, we may not be aware of the power they can have over our psyche. Train yourself to send your own subliminal messages. Put up reminders of why its a great goal to quit smoking. What about a photo of that holiday location you’ve always wanted to visit?
It’s not a cake walk — trying to quit smoking. This addiction is powerful and often hard to overcome. Don’t let the struggle blindside you. Remain on top of things, and your goals. Once your self-confidence suffers damage, it can be hard to get it back. Before you start your journey, do tell yourself the truth. It is hard to quit. Commit yourself to solving problems as they arise, and overcoming them one by one. Don’t stop the journey after just a weekend, thinking you will go back to it after a few days. Keep it up. Keep the ball rolling. Do a few pleasurable things during your quit smoking journey — get out and exercise. You can also exercise at home. Learning to play on electronic drum set- good or bad idea?
Something along the lines of Roland HD-1. I figured it would save me some space and my neighbors wouldn’t hate me as much. I’m wondering if it would be counter-productive to learn on an electronic as opposed to a real set. Seems like they would have a totally different feel.
They do have a different feel but if you learn on a rubber-headed HD-1 kit you’ll actually find it easier to switch to acoustic drums rather than the other way around. Drum skins are much more responsive (although the electronic versions are getting better and better) and you will find that you can ‘float’ around an acoustic kit better after playing on the HD-1 for a while.
One piece of advice though… when you set up your HD-1s try to space and angle the heads to emulate acoustic drums. Your real problem on switching to acoustic would be getting used to a really compact kit and then suddenly having to spread your drums out a lot more.
PS Everything I’ve written refers to the Roland HD-1 kit only. Cheaper electronic kits don’t match up and will cause you problems.
