do you love sun conures? after all the antisun conure advice i got, im glad i got mine?
does anybody here have a quiet sun? mine is fairly quiet, does anybody have any fun sun conure stories, i love to read those. thanks!!!
They’re cute, my neighbor had one. He’d hop in the sink while they were doing their dishes. He was a bit loud, though I think he wanted attention, parrots get that way being flock birds and all. I liked their bird, it’d bite me, but I suspected that’s because I didn’t live with them so I was unfamiliar.

Sun Conure Parrots–5 Personality Traits Of Sun Conures
The Sun Conure is beautiful in appearance and has a wonderful personality. But the following 5 pieces of information will help you learn more about this parrot so that there are no surprises once you bring it home.
Physical Traits-It’s considered a little bird in the Parrot species-only about 12 inches and weighing in between 4 and 5 ounces, and they have life spans up to 30 years. The muted green color that they are born with serves them well in the wild as camouflage until about age 1.
Upon maturity the feathers turn brilliant with vivid oranges, reds, blues, greens, and yellows. Their beaks are black and feet are grey. They have a white ring around their beautiful Dark Brown eyes. If you are looking for a bird that is visually striking, this bird is for you.
Sounds-The Conure is a screamer. Screaming can indicate that it is not receiving enough human attention, or that it is in some way unhappy. The Conure is not a good choice if you live in an apartment or house that is connected to another where these screams can become an issue for your neighbors.
On the positive side, proper and consistent training can eliminate a lot of the screaming. And if not, they make wonderful burglar alarms when strangers approach. Before you commit, try being around one for a while to get an idea of how loud they really are, and decide whether the noise will be tolerable for you and your family. Better to decide before rather than after you’ve brought it home.
Personality-Inquisitive, and intelligent, it is definitely a very outgoing bird. A bird with a sense of humor, it is in its element when doing tricks, and can be taught to say a few words. It can also imitate household sounds such as microwave buzzers, ringing phones, and alarms of every kind. It loves human contact, both physical and emotional, and needs a home where it can interact constantly by being housed in an area where there is lots of activity.
If you and your family are away from home a lot, this is not a good choice for you or the bird. It can be nippy, but regular socialization and training can nip this in the bud and make it safe for you and children in the family.
Nutritional Needs-A diet of sprouted seeds and pellets, leafy green vegetables, fruits and nuts augmented with a mineral block will go far towards keeping your bird healthy. Remember to use a variety of foods, and rotate them to stimulate interest. An unlimited supply of fresh water is a must.
Maintenance-These are pretty easy birds to keep. They appreciate a spray of warm water or placing of a shallow bowl of water in their cage for a bath once a week.
Keeping their air clean by filtering fine particulates such as dust, dander, and feather will keep their air passages clear and reduce their chances of contracting disease and infection. Using a high efficiency particle (HEPA) air purifier will insure that its air passages remain clear, and cut down on the risk of infection and disease.

Do green cheek conures make good family birds?
I’m looking for another feathered friend to add to our family. We have two kids, a ten year old boy and a bird-obsessed 14 year old daughter. She’s been bugging me recently about getting another parrot, and she wants a green cheek conure.
We currently have two budgies, and they’re fabulous little guys that seem to love us all. They have free range of the house, but that may have to change should we get anotehr bird.
Anyway, I’m all for getting the connure, but only if its likely to bond with all of us and not just my daughter. She’ll be off to college in four years, and I want the parrot to be able to be happy without her.
-So, do most green cheek conures bond with most members of the family?
-Would the conure be able to be out of its cage at the same time as our budgies without harming them?
-What alternatives are there to a green cheek conure, if you have another preference?
A green cheek conure can be a wonderful addition to your house. Especially since you seem to love birds already. A conure is like the next level up in care and time from budgies.
They tend to favour one person, and there is absolutely no way of knowing who that person may be. Sometimes the bird can attach to the person who cares the least for him/her and spends the littlest time. There is know 100% way of knowing that the conure will bond with your daughter. However, if everyone spends enough time and treats him/her with respect (while not always trying to be the “good guy” sometimes a little time-out is needed) s/he can enjoy the company of the human flock. A conure with many human friends will typically be more well behaved and if s/he ever had to find a new family than s/he could adjust with less emotional distress than a bird who trusts only one person.
Whether or not the conure can be out at the same time as your budgies is completely up to the conure and the budgies. Like people, a conure (and your budgies) may choose to like the other birds, or hate them. Never put the new bird out with the others to test this. At first, put their cages beside each other to see how they react to each other. I personally would not let them both out together unsupervised.
I think a green cheek conure is a good choice for a pet bird. Many other types of conures can be extremely loud, and some (such as the sun conure) have a natural screech for a voice. Parrotlets can also make wonderful pets as well, and have almost identical care patterns as a green cheek. If your looking for a slightly “quieter” bird (if quiet can be used to describe any bird) you could also consider a cockatiel. Cockatiels usually bond quite easily with many people.
