Parrots Pet
Does anyone know if it is possible to bring a pet parrot from Brazil to the US?

I have heard there are three species of parrots, like the green parrot, that can be brought from Brazil to the US? Does anyone know how this works?

I really doubt it. Even breeders are not allowed to import birds any more. They are very conscious of bird flu and other diseases. If they do allow you, it will have to be in quarantine for quite a while. Check with customs first.

Quaker Parrots – The Orators of the Avian Race

Also known as monk parrots or grey-breasted parrots, Quaker parrots are native to South America but have managed to make their home in some U.S. states and European countries, due to their hardiness and ability to endure temperate climates. They measure about 12 inches from head to tail and grow to about the same size as cockatiels. Quaker parrots are naturally green with grey chests, throats and foreheads. They also sport some blue coloring on their primaries and tail feathers. However, you may be able to find different colored quaker parrots that have been bred specifically to give them a blue, white or other different color instead of green.

Quaker parrots are incredibly intelligent and you can very quickly teach them how to talk. With the right training, you can even teach them to say things at appropriate times such as only saying “Good morning” when its actually time-appropriate. Quaker parrots are noisy birds and although they usually only communicate at a moderate volume, they will be whistling, chirping and talking all day long – definitely not a pet for those who hate excessive noise.

how much are african grey parrots in pet stores or breeders?

The average cost of an African Grey is $1,000 – $1,500. Of course, you could adopt a homeless grey from an animal shelter for much less than that. As with any pet, make sure you do your research before getting one. African Grey parrots are very strong and can inflict serious wounds on human flesh with their powerful beaks. They aren’t always compatible with small children. Their nails are naturally sharp and can scratch, though the birds do not use them aggressively. Pet owners often liken the experience of keeping an African Grey to that of raising a young child – not only because of the birds’ intelligence, but also from the substantial time commitment required. African Grey parrots, like most pet parrots, are considered by many to be very high-maintenance pets, as they require a good deal of personal attention and many hours each day out of their cages. While numbers vary with each source, most agree that three hours out of cage daily and 45 minutes of physical interaction is the minimum attention required for good mental health. African Greys, particularly Congo African Greys, are known to be wary of strangers, and tend to bond solely with their main carer if they do not interact with different people regularly.
Grey parrots are prone to behavioral problems if they are not provided with a stimulating environment and allowed plenty of time out of their cage each day. African greys have the potential to be very long lived, so you must be sure you are ready for the commitment as you could have your feathered friend for up to 50 years or more. And don’t think you can just sell or give away a parrot that has bonded with you! That is very confusing and scary for the bird.
